Art helping at-risk and underserved youth...

I heard about this great organization from a good friend of mine who volunteers for them. It would be amazing if more states had programs like this... Colorado at-risk and underserved youth are in critical need of services and interventions to help them successfully complete high school and transition to adulthood. PlatteForum (www.PlatteForum.org) programs and services help teach these kids valuable life lessons to help them become successful adults.

Here is info on the ArtLab program: Based on best practices for youth development programs, ArtLab is an innovative year-round out-of-school program for underserved high school youth incorporating the creative arts with academic, personal and professional skill development. As an intensive program, we are limited to 15 students who go through a competitive application and interview process. Youth do NOT need to have an arts background. This program is targeted to youth who do not have access to learning through the arts and would benefit from structured immersion in the creative process.

My friend Leslie is on the board and writes:

I am on the Board of Directors for PlatteForum and [personally] trying to raise $20,000 this summer so our organization can continue to provide these opportunities for Colorado's kids. Please help me reach this goal with a donation today AND you will double your donation - The Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado offered a match on all these donations!

You have lots of things you can spend your money on-baby showers, birthdays, weddings, vacations, etc., but I ask that you donate the cost of those coffee shop visits, a night out for dinner...whatever you can offer up to help Colorado's kids have a better future. Even if you do not live in-state, helping these kids to a better future can benefit us all when they become successful college graduates and pass this experience on and on and on...

Thank you for your consideration and in advance, for your generous donations! Please let me know if you have questions: leslie.horna@gmail.com.

Please share this post and give if you can!
